The team left Brehm Preparatory School and Carbondale the afternoon of the 18th to travel to St. Louis to compete in the 2009 FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition: Lunacy. We got to our hotel, settled in and began the hard job of planning the event of the next morning.
Two student members and one mentor brought in all of our equipment and uncrated the robot. That can be the most nerve-racking time. It is early, you never get much sleep the night before, and you always fear in the back of your mind that something happened to the robot in transit to the venue.
Our robot made it. The build team (lead by co-captain Scott) got our turret back on the robot and worked throughout the morning getting our robot legal and in good working order. Our programmers are getting our autonomous code working so we are not a sitting duck for he start of the match.
Our robot is competing well in the practice rounds today, having difficulty at times, but our drivers and shooters are learning the ropes and everyone is looking forward to some fierce competition tomorrow during the qualifying rounds.
